Stepping up in Girard-Perregaux's range
The Laureato has one of the more underappreciated origin stories in Swiss watchmaking. When it arrived in 1975, it stood alongside the Royal Oak and the Nautilus as part of a small wave of integrated-bracelet sports watches that changed what a luxury watch was permitted to look like — though it has never quite received the same attention as its contemporaries. The octagonal bezel is the signature from that original design, and it carries forward here with no revision needed. At 38mm it sits at the useful centre of the range: substantial enough to read clearly, contained enough to disappear under a shirt cuff when required. The midnight blue dial wears rather differently in changing light — the Clous de Paris hobnail stamping that covers it catches direct light and goes almost graphite in shade, giving the watch two distinct personalities through the day. The rhodium-plated indexes carry green lume that reads well after dark, and the exhibition caseback reveals an 18-carat pink gold rotor turning inside the movement — an unexpected warmth at the back of an otherwise cool-toned piece. The H-link integrated bracelet is what ties the design together, flowing from the case in a way that reads as a single object rather than two components assembled. At 10.02mm thick, the whole thing sits flatter than the bold bezel suggests it will.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 46 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 44mm, which suits wrists from roughly 15cm (6 inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as unisex, and at this size it suits any wrist that takes the dimensions.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
