Guess Solar 40mm Ladies Watch Gold
Ref. W1070L2
Sits in Guess’s upper tier here — more premium than three quarters of the Guess watches we list, which start at £65.
Price range £65 to £245 across 163 Guess watches in stock.Despite the Solar name, this is a battery-quartz watch — the collection title is aesthetic rather than functional, and the movement inside is a Seiko Instruments module, which at least means the timekeeping is dependable. The day-date sub-dial is the practical payload. At 40mm in gold PVD it reads large for a women's watch, but the design vocabulary pulls in the opposite direction: Roman numerals, dauphine hands and a sunray dial finish all belong to a more classical tradition, which keeps the size from feeling aggressive. At 116 grams on the steel link bracelet, there is enough weight to make itself known on the wrist without becoming tiresome by the afternoon.

Learn more about Guess
The Marciano brothers founded Guess in Los Angeles in 1981, building it on denim and advertising that became as well known as the clothes.
The watch line is produced in-house through Guess Watches and Sequel AG, and follows the brand's aesthetic closely: crystal-set bezels, heavy gold and rose gold plating, oversized cases, and dials that favour decoration over legibility. Movements are quartz.
The watches are priced as accessories and sold as such.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.
Will the glass scratch?
It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.
Does it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
What size strap does it take?
18mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's, though at 40mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference new, at £185. There is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
