Stepping up in Hamilton's range

Price range £375 to £2,265 across 83 Hamilton watches in stock.

The Khaki Field traces its lineage directly to the field watches Hamilton supplied to Allied forces, and the design principles that made those watches useful — unambiguous legality, a manually wound movement, a case tough enough to ignore rough handling — are entirely intact here. The white dial carries both a 12-hour and a 24-hour scale, which on a field watch is a practical decision rather than a decorative one. The matte, sandblasted case finish does exactly what it did on the originals: it kills reflections. The H-50 calibre is developed from the ETA 2801-2, but Hamilton has extended its power reserve to 80 hours, meaning a watch set down on Friday evening is still running Monday morning. The power reserve indicator on the dial makes that capacity legible at a glance rather than a matter of guesswork. At 42mm on a 22mm lug spacing the proportions lean purposeful — this is not a watch that tries to disappear on the wrist, and the steel bracelet keeps the weight honest rather than lightening the whole thing down to something less deliberate.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is hand-wound, so it needs winding every day or two but never a battery.

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 80 hours fully wound — enough to sit off the wrist over a weekend and still be running.

What size strap does it take?

22mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.

Cheapest place to buy

Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.

Who are Goldsmiths?

Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
