Stepping up in the same colour and case shape
The Khaki Field sits in a line with genuine military roots — Hamilton supplied field watches to American forces throughout the twentieth century, and the design logic of those instruments has never really left this range. The brief has always been the same: legible under pressure, reliable without attention, nothing on the dial that earns its place by looking good alone. At 38mm with a lug-to-lug of 47mm it wears closer to a true vintage field watch than most modern interpretations, sitting flat against the wrist rather than sitting on top of it. The black dial with Super-LumiNova hands reads cleanly at a glance and holds its own in low light. Beneath the caseback, the H-10 is Hamilton's own automatic calibre — built around a Nivachron balance spring that resists magnetic fields without requiring soft-iron shielding, and wound to an 80-hour reserve, which comfortably covers a long weekend off the wrist. The brown leather strap with contrast stitching is the right choice for this case: it reinforces the utilitarian character without reaching for it too deliberately, and the 20mm lug width means alternatives are easy to find when the time comes.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 80 hours fully wound — enough to sit off the wrist over a weekend and still be running.
What size strap does it take?
20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 47mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16cm (6¼ inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's, though at 38mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
