The original Khaki Field Murph appeared on screen in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, worn by Matthew McConaughey's character and later becoming the centrepiece of one of the film's pivotal scenes. Hamilton supplied the prop and then, to considerable demand, turned it into a production watch. This 38mm variant follows the 42mm original with the same design logic intact: a jet-black dial, cathedral-style hands in aged beige Super-LumiNova, and Arabic numerals that read clearly at a glance in any light. The absence of a date window keeps the dial exactly as the film showed it. At 38mm with a 44.7mm lug-to-lug, it sits closer to a field watch's working proportions than the larger model, and the 11.1mm case height disappears under a cuff without ceremony. The H-10 movement underneath is built on an ETA Powermatic base but runs to an 80-hour reserve — enough to leave it off the wrist over a long weekend and pick it up unwound on Monday — and the Nivachron balance spring gives it practical resistance to the magnetic fields that trouble conventional alloys. The open caseback lets you watch it run, which with a movement this legible feels like the right way to wear a watch that was already, in a sense, about time.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 80 hours fully wound — enough to sit off the wrist over a weekend and still be running.

What size strap does it take?

20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Will it fit my wrist?

Lug-to-lug is 44.7mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16cm (6¼ inches) upward.

Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as unisex, and at this size it suits any wrist that takes the dimensions.

Cheapest place to buy

Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.

Who are Goldsmiths?

Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
