Stepping up in the same colour and case shape
The Khaki Field has always worn its military utility plainly, and this variant adds one genuinely useful thing: a dial-mounted gauge showing how much of the 80-hour power reserve remains. The H-23 was developed by ETA exclusively for Hamilton, and the indicator reads in the most direct language possible — F for full, E for empty — which suits a field watch better than any subdial with finer graduations would. At 40mm with an 11.95mm case, it wears without bulk, and the matte steel finish keeps it from reading as dressy. The black dial carries 24-hour markers alongside the standard hour track, a detail that takes a moment to notice and then quietly earns its place. Eighty hours of reserve means a watch put down on a Friday evening will still be running Monday morning, and the gauge tells you exactly where it stands. The Easy Click spring bars mean the bracelet comes off without tools, which matters more than it sounds on a watch designed to be worn differently depending on the day.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is hand-wound, so it needs winding every day or two but never a battery.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 80 hours fully wound — enough to sit off the wrist over a weekend and still be running.
What size strap does it take?
20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 48mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16.5cm (6½ inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's, though at 40mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
