Stepping up in ID Genève's range
ID Genève was founded on a specific argument: that Swiss watchmaking's relationship with materials could be rebuilt from the ground up. The Circular 1 is where that argument takes physical form. The steel in the case is fully recycled, sourced from the Jura region rather than drawn from new stock; the movement is a refurbished ETA 2824 rather than a fresh one; the strap is made from plant-derived textile rather than leather or virgin synthetics; and the packaging composts at home. Nothing about the construction is incidental — each element traces back to the same stated purpose. The dial rewards closer attention than a first glance suggests. The sunbeam brushing shifts noticeably as the light changes angle, giving a plain silver surface more range than its restraint implies, while the applied stick indexes in lume-treated steel sit cleanly against it. At 9.65mm the case is neither slimline nor bulky — it sits honestly on the wrist, the fabric strap keeping it lighter than steel would, and the overall effect is considered rather than conspicuous.

ID Genève was founded in Geneva to answer a question the industry mostly avoids: what a luxury watch would look like if its environmental impact were the design brief rather than an afterthought.
The Circular 1 case is made from steel grade 4441 — surgical-grade stainless — reclaimed as offcuts and swarf from around forty watchmaking companies in and around the Jura. The waste of an industry, returned to it. The 4441 mark on the caseback certifies the recycled Swiss origin.
The Circular S went further and remelted that steel in a solar furnace, concentrating sunlight rather than burning fuel, which the company puts at a carbon impact some 165 times lower than conventionally produced steel. The case decoration — fluting, brushed bezel finishes — is built around the sun that did the melting.
Dials are laser-engraved rather than chemically treated, taking their pattern from metallography: the microstructures that appear in steel under a microscope.
Production is small and largely limited-edition, and the brand describes itself as impact-native rather than sustainable, on the grounds that the second word has been used too loosely to mean much.
