The Velocità collection takes its name from the Italian for speed, and the connection to Maserati's automotive heritage is worn openly rather than hinted at — the dial layout, the contrast of matte and polished surfaces, and the gold PVD treatment on the bezel, hands and indices all borrow from the visual language of the cockpit rather than the boardroom. The most telling detail is the open aperture at the seven o'clock position, where the balance wheel of the Miyota 82S0 is left visible through the dial. At 21,600 vibrations per hour this is not the most frenetic movement you will find, but the 82S0 is a Citizen-built calibre with a strong reputation for long-term reliability and straightforward servicing — the kind of movement that continues to run correctly long after the novelty of watching it has worn off. A screwed exhibition caseback lets you see the rest of it. At 160 grams on the wrist, the watch announces itself without being uncomfortable, and 12.7mm of thickness keeps it within reach of a shirt cuff when the occasion asks for it.

Learn more about Maserati

The Maserati brothers founded their workshop in Bologna in 1914 and built racing cars that won the Targa Florio and the Indianapolis 500. The trident emblem comes from the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna.

The watches are a licensed line produced by Morellato Group in Italy, not by the carmaker. They draw openly on automotive design: tachymeter bezels, perforated leather straps recalling racing gloves, dashboard-style dials, and case shapes referencing grilles and instrument binnacles.

Movements are quartz and bought-in automatic. The appeal is the association and the styling rather than the mechanics.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.

Will the glass scratch?

It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 42 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.

What size strap does it take?

22mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.
