The second series of Seiko's 145th anniversary commemoratives draws a direct line back to 1881, when Kintaro Hattori opened a clock and watch repair shop in Tokyo, and then forward to 1965, when the 62MAS became Japan's first purpose-built diver. This watch is a modern reinterpretation of that original — now at 40mm with a 46.4mm lug-to-lug, dimensions refined in 2024 to bring the case closer to what the 62MAS weighed on the wrist. The anniversary colouring is carried entirely by the Seiko Blue seconds hand and bezel insert, a shade the brand established in the 1960s, set against the silver-white dial. It is a considered restraint: the case itself is not redesigned for the occasion, but the combination reads clearly as commemorative. One of 4,000 examples worldwide. At 13mm thick and 46.4mm lug-to-lug, this sits flatter and shorter than most watches rated to 300 metres, and it wears accordingly — closer to the wrist, friendlier under a cuff. The diver's slide clasp offers six increments of 2.5mm each, giving a total of around 15mm of fine adjustment, which matters over a wetsuit or through a summer. The 6R55 inside is Seiko's own, running a 72-hour reserve with the kind of finishing associated with the upper tier of the brand's in-house production, and the caseback carries the limited-edition engraving that separates this piece from the standard run.
