Seiko Prospex 1965 Revival Diver's 3-day 300m in Cove Black

The 62MAS of 1965 was both Seiko's and Japan's first diver, a 38mm barrel-cased automatic rated to 150 metres that proved itself further when members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition wore it to the South Pole between 1966 and 1969. The SPB453J1 is a direct revival of that watch — one of three configurations in this release, distinguished by its all-black dial and bezel and carrying the name Cove Black. Alongside the incremental design refinements, it achieves 300 metres of water resistance, a first for Prospex outside the saturation-diving line. The movement step matters here. The earlier 62MAS revival ran the 6R35; the 6R55 fitted here adds two hours, bringing the power reserve to a full 72 hours. At 40mm with a 46.4mm lug-to-lug span it wears closer to a daily watch than a dedicated dive instrument, helped by a bracelet that has been slimmed and re-linked since the previous generation. The date sits between four and five o'clock rather than squarely at three, a deliberate shift that opens more dial space for LumiBrite and keeps the layout symmetrical — a small change that improves both legibility underwater and the overall balance of the dial in ordinary light.
