The Seastar line dates back more than seventy years, and it has always been Tissot's serious water-resistance proposition. This generation brings the case down from 43mm to 40mm — a meaningful reduction that widens the audience without softening the brief — and adds a notched edge treatment that makes the profile feel tighter and more deliberate than the outgoing version. The full black PVD execution with a graded grey-to-black dial is the most singular of the five variants in this release, reading closer to instrument than ornament. At 40mm with a 46mm lug-to-lug, it sits well on a range of wrists without the bulk that has made some of its predecessors awkward under a sleeve. The Powermatic 80.111 at its centre is an ETA-derived movement running at 21,600bph with a Nivachron balance spring and 80 hours of power reserve — roughly twice what a conventional automatic offers, which matters practically when a diver watch goes unworn for a long weekend. The ceramic bezel insert with its lumed pip, the screw-down crown and caseback, and the 300m rating are credible rather than aspirational for a watch at this depth class. The bracelet is well-finished and includes quick-release spring bars, which makes swapping to a rubber strap for actual water use straightforward. The clasp has no on-the-fly micro-adjustment, which is the one concession the wrist-side experience makes to the price point. Lume output is competent rather than exceptional — visible in low light, but reviewers have noted the indices could be bolder for a watch rated this deep.
