The City Chronograph takes Burberry's most recognisable motif — the house check — and presses it directly into the dial using a hydraulic-stamping process, so the pattern sits in the metal itself rather than being printed on. Against a blue ground, the effect reads differently at different angles: flat-on it registers as texture, and in raking light the grid becomes the whole surface. At 42mm in grey ion-plated steel the case runs notably slim for a chronograph, and sits without bulk against the wrist. The three subdials are arranged to read cleanly, with the date set at four o'clock where it sits outside the counters rather than crowding them. The grey bracelet is a considered match for the case tone, and the butterfly clasp allows a precise fit that a tang buckle would not.
