The PH1000M first appeared in 1970, when Certina was building watches for working divers rather than enthusiasts, and the brief was simple: go deeper, seal tighter, keep running. That original caused enough of a stir that the current version restores it almost literally — the proportions, the retro dial treatment with baton markers, and the automatic helium escape valve that marks this as a genuine saturation diving tool rather than a watch that merely looks the part. At 14.15mm thick, it is not a slim watch, but 1000 metres of rating demands serious gasket engineering and a screw-down crown, and Certina's Double Security construction earns that depth honestly. The Powermatic 80 inside is worth noting: its Nivachron balance spring resists magnetic fields without needing a Faraday cage around the movement, and the 80-hour reserve means a working diver on a long rotation does not need to tend to it daily. The black fabric strap keeps the wrist cooler than steel in warm water and sheds weight from what is already a substantial 107 grams of case.
