Stepping up in the same colour and case shape
The Khaki Field has been in continuous production in various forms since Hamilton supplied watches to the US military, and this bronze variant applies that lineage to a material that actively records its own service. The case is CuSn8 — a high-tin bronze that patinas unevenly and irreversibly, responding to skin chemistry, climate and daily contact, so no two examples age identically. The caseback is titanium rather than bronze, which prevents the green discolouration that direct bronze-to-skin contact causes over time. At 38mm and 9.6mm thick, it sits genuinely flat on the wrist — closer to a dress watch in profile than the bulkier field watches that surround it in Hamilton's range. The matte black dial carries both a 12-hour outer track and a 24-hour inner ring, the latter a direct inheritance from military spec. Hands and triangular hour markers are filled with beige-tinted Super-LumiNova, which reads as aged radium in daylight and holds a strong charge into the night. The H-50 inside is a manual movement derived from the ETA 2801-2, wound by hand and good for 80 hours between windings — enough to set it down over a weekend without resetting the time on Monday morning.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is hand-wound, so it needs winding every day or two but never a battery.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 80 hours fully wound — enough to sit off the wrist over a weekend and still be running.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 47mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16cm (6¼ inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's, though at 38mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
