The Sfida collection takes its name from the Italian for challenge, and the brief behind it was straightforward: a sports watch that reads as Maserati rather than merely as a licensed product, drawing on the trident marque's language of dark finishes, aggressive geometry and Italian automotive proportion. The Dark Edition pulls every element into the same register — case, bezel and bracelet linked by matching black PVD so the watch reads as a single object rather than an assembly of parts. At 44mm the case sits large, but 11mm of thickness is unusually restrained for a watch in this idiom; it lies flatter against the wrist than most similarly scaled sport pieces, and the unidirectional rotating bezel adds presence without adding height. The matte black dial keeps things legible, with luminous hands and indices that hold well into low light and a date aperture at three that doesn't crowd the layout.

Learn more about Maserati
The Maserati brothers founded their workshop in Bologna in 1914 and built racing cars that won the Targa Florio and the Indianapolis 500. The trident emblem comes from the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna.
The watches are a licensed line produced by Morellato Group in Italy, not by the carmaker. They draw openly on automotive design: tachymeter bezels, perforated leather straps recalling racing gloves, dashboard-style dials, and case shapes referencing grilles and instrument binnacles.
Movements are quartz and bought-in automatic. The appeal is the association and the styling rather than the mechanics.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.
Does it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's.
