The SMA07 beneath is an in-house skeleton movement only 3.25mm thick, wound by a tungsten micro-rotor and beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour — a high-beat calibre in a case just 6.30mm deep, which is a genuinely difficult combination to achieve. The "La City" case shape, square in profile with rounded corners and polished bevels, gives the whole thing an architectural quality that the integrated bracelet extends naturally, its alternating satin and polished rows reading as a continuation of the case rather than an addition to it. The hour and minute hands are hand-flamed blued steel with the brand's signature heart-shaped tips — a small idiosyncrasy that becomes familiar quickly and makes the watch immediately identifiable at a glance. The bracelet's built-in micro-adjuster offers 4mm of tool-free expansion via a 2mm button, which matters more than it sounds on a watch this flat: at 6.30mm it will sit under a cuff, and being able to accommodate a shirt sleeve without tools keeps it there.

Peter Speake-Marin trained at Hackney Technical College in London, spent years restoring antique watches on Piccadilly and later worked at Renaud et Papi, the complications workshop behind much of the industry's most difficult work. He founded his own brand in Switzerland in 2002.
The house style was established early and has stayed: the Piccadilly case with its distinctive stepped bezel, the topping tool motif taken from a watchmaker's own bench, and heart-shaped bridges visible through the back.
Christelle Rosnoblet bought the company in 2012 and built a movement workshop in the Neuchâtel region, moving it from assembling supplied calibres towards developing and finishing its own.
The output is deliberately small and deliberately difficult — tourbillons, minute repeaters, the Vertical Double Tourbillon, and an Art Series with hand-sculpted dials. These are watches made in dozens rather than thousands.
Peter Speake-Marin himself has since moved on to other projects; the brand he named continues in Geneva.
