The Ripples line takes its name seriously: the small-seconds sub-dial at the unusual 1:30 position is finished with hand-polished, PVD-treated horizontal ripples that sit in three dimensions, and that detail alone explains why Speake-Marin carved the dial open rather than covering it. The SMA07 beneath is an in-house skeleton movement only 3.25mm thick, wound by a tungsten micro-rotor and beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour — a high-beat calibre in a case just 6.30mm deep, which is a genuinely difficult combination to achieve. The "La City" case shape, square in profile with rounded corners and polished bevels, gives the whole thing an architectural quality that the integrated bracelet extends naturally, its alternating satin and polished rows reading as a continuation of the case rather than an addition to it. The hour and minute hands are hand-flamed blued steel with the brand's signature heart-shaped tips — a small idiosyncrasy that becomes familiar quickly and makes the watch immediately identifiable at a glance. The bracelet's built-in micro-adjuster offers 4mm of tool-free expansion via a 2mm button, which matters more than it sounds on a watch this flat: at 6.30mm it will sit under a cuff, and being able to accommodate a shirt sleeve without tools keeps it there.
