Diesel's Mega Chief has always been deliberately oversized — a design that made no apologies for filling a wrist and then some. The DZ4542 takes that formula and runs a rainbow PVD coating across the case and bracelet, turning the chronograph subdials' multicolour accents into something that reads as intentional spectacle rather than an afterthought. At 51mm it sits high on the wrist and makes itself known; this is not a watch that disappears under a sleeve, nor is it trying to. The broad bracelet carries the rainbow finish consistently from lug to clasp, so the whole piece reads as one object rather than a case bolted onto a strap chosen later.

Renzo Rosso founded Diesel in Molvena in 1978, building a denim brand on deliberate irreverence. The watches, produced under licence by Fossil Group, carry that attitude directly.
Where most fashion watches aim for restraint, Diesel does the opposite: oversized cases frequently past 50mm, blacked-out finishes, exposed screws, multiple crowns, and dials that prioritise visual impact over legibility. The Mr Daddy models stack four time zones onto a single dial.
Whether that appeals is a matter of taste, but the design intent is consistent and unmistakable, which is more than can be said for much of the category.
