The Sorpasso collection takes its name from the Italian word for overtaking — an apt reference given Maserati's involvement, and it sets the design register clearly: this is a sports watch dressed in automotive language rather than horological tradition. At 42mm across and 11mm through the case, it wears with a flatness that keeps it from sitting proud on the wrist, and a 21mm lug width gives the bracelet a planted, substantial feel without the heaviness some full-metal watches carry. The black sunray dial reads cleanly against silver stick indices and hands, the sunray finish doing useful work in shifting light where a flat dial would simply look dark. The lume on the baton hands is adequate for a momentary glance in a dim room, though it fades quickly — this is not a watch to navigate by at 3am. The deployment clasp with push-button releases is a practical inclusion, and link removal via push-pins means sizing is straightforward without a visit to a jeweller.

The Maserati brothers founded their workshop in Bologna in 1914 and built racing cars that won the Targa Florio and the Indianapolis 500. The trident emblem comes from the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna.
The watches are a licensed line produced by Morellato Group in Italy, not by the carmaker. They draw openly on automotive design: tachymeter bezels, perforated leather straps recalling racing gloves, dashboard-style dials, and case shapes referencing grilles and instrument binnacles.
Movements are quartz and bought-in automatic. The appeal is the association and the styling rather than the mechanics.
