The Tonda PF is Parmigiani Fleurier's attempt to prove that a house built on haute horlogerie restoration can also produce a sports watch of its own conviction rather than simply a dressed-down dress watch. The Sport variant reduces the bezel notch count from 225 to 160, sharpens the proportions and puts the whole thing on rubber — enough changes to shift the character without abandoning the lineage. At 9.80mm, the case is notably slim for a 100m-rated steel sports watch, which is what makes it useful: it disappears under a cuff, sits flush on the wrist, and reads as considered rather than aggressive. The silver-grey opaline dial carries a hand-guilloché triangular nail pattern that shifts from flat to dimensional depending on the angle of the light, and the skeletonized delta hands with black Super-LumiNova read crisply against it. None of this is accidental — the dial finishing is the kind of work that usually stays inside the dress watch category. The caseback earns a look. The PF770 runs on series-mounted double barrels for a 60-hour reserve, and through the exhibition sapphire you can see Côtes de Genève finishing, bevelled edges, and a skeletonized rotor in 22-carat pink gold — a detail that sits in quiet contrast to the sport brief the rest of the watch is following.

Michel Parmigiani spent two decades as a restorer, and it is the key to the company. He worked on the Maurice Sandoz collection — automata, singing birds, and complicated clocks of extraordinary rarity — and became one of the few people alive capable of rebuilding eighteenth and nineteenth century mechanisms whose makers left no documentation.
The Sandoz Family Foundation financed the founding of Parmigiani Fleurier in 1996 on the strength of that expertise, and continues to own it. Restoration work still runs alongside production, which is unusual and has direct consequences: the house has reverse-engineered historical complications few others have seen working.
The Sandoz backing also allowed something rarer than a brand — a supply chain. Parmigiani built or acquired Vaucher for movements, Atokalpa for escapement components including hairsprings, Elwin for precision parts, and Les Artisans Boîtiers for cases. Very few manufactures control all of that, and Vaucher supplies movements to other high-end houses.
The aesthetic signature is the teardrop lug, taken from historical pocket watch cases, and the Toric bezel with its knurled fluting derived from Greek architectural proportion.
The Tonda PF collection, launched in 2021, repositioned the house around understated integrated-bracelet watches and has been its most commercially successful line.
