Stepping up in Police's range

Price range £50 to £209 across 15 Police watches in stock.

The Cage collection is Police's recurring exercise in industrial architecture — the name comes through in the open structural detailing around the case edges, which gives the profile its particular character without tipping into pure sportswear. The brown dial reads warmly against the two-tone case, and the contrasting rose-toned markers sit legibly against it in most light conditions. At 150 grams on the wrist, this is a watch that announces itself physically, but the 12.6mm profile keeps it from fighting a shirt cuff the way heavier chronograph cases tend to. The deployant clasp sizes down by removing individual friction-pin links, so fit can be dialled in precisely rather than left to the nearest folded-over link of a standard buckle.

Learn more about Police

Police began in Italy in 1983 as an eyewear brand under the Vogue and later De Rigo groups, and built its identity on sunglasses worn by film and music figures through the 1980s and 1990s.

The watches are licensed rather than made in-house, produced under agreement by a specialist watch manufacturer and sold through jewellers and department stores alongside the eyewear and fragrance.

Design follows the label: heavy cases, dark PVD finishes, exposed screws and industrial detailing, skull and heraldic motifs, and a masculine, deliberately loud aesthetic that changes with the season rather than the decade.

Movements are quartz, occasionally multi-function, and prices sit in the fashion-watch bracket.

Taken as an accessory that matches a particular look, the range does what it sets out to. It is not a watchmaking company and does not present itself as one.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.

Will the glass scratch?

It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.

Does it need a battery?

Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.

What size strap does it take?

22mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.
