The El Primero movement has been at the centre of Zenith's identity since 1969, when it became one of the first automatic chronographs to run at 5 Hz. The 3610 fitted here is its direct descendant, and the high frequency still does something useful: the central chronograph hand completes a full sweep every ten seconds, which means it shows elapsed time to a tenth of a second — a resolution that most mechanical chronographs simply cannot match. At 38mm, the case sits closer to the proportions of classical watchmaking than the 41mm versions, and at 12.60mm it wears with less bulk on the wrist than its complication count might suggest. A triple calendar with moonphase — day, month and date in separate apertures, the lunar display nested inside the 60-minute counter — typically demands architectural concessions in thickness; this one largely avoids them. The slate opaline dial, with its silver-white subdials, keeps all of that legible at a glance rather than turning it into a puzzle to solve. The sapphire caseback is the detail that earns its keep over time. The 3610's column wheel and the characteristic star-shaped rotor are clearly visible, and given that El Primero's history is genuinely worth looking at, it is not mere decoration.
