Diesel's Mega Chief has always been about size used as provocation rather than engineering necessity — 51mm is a number chosen to be noticed, worn by people who want the watch to speak before they do. The gold-tone treatment, sunray dial and red logo overlay make the intent explicit: this is a watch that does not hedge its aesthetic. At 207g on the wrist it is a substantial presence, and the 25–26mm bracelet width means the proportions hold together at that scale rather than looking spindly at the lugs. The Seiko VD57 movement inside is a workhorse chronograph calibre — accurate, reliable, widely serviced — which is a sensible choice in a watch whose owner is unlikely to be obsessing over the mechanics.

Renzo Rosso founded Diesel in Molvena in 1978, building a denim brand on deliberate irreverence. The watches, produced under licence by Fossil Group, carry that attitude directly.
Where most fashion watches aim for restraint, Diesel does the opposite: oversized cases frequently past 50mm, blacked-out finishes, exposed screws, multiple crowns, and dials that prioritise visual impact over legibility. The Mr Daddy models stack four time zones onto a single dial.
Whether that appeals is a matter of taste, but the design intent is consistent and unmistakable, which is more than can be said for much of the category.
