Stepping up in Oris's range
The Big Crown has been in continuous production since 1938, when Oris designed its oversized crown specifically for pilots who needed to adjust their watches without removing their gloves. The pointer date — a central hand sweeping a peripheral scale rather than a window jumping a digit — became the collection's mechanical signature, and it has never left. What is new here is the Bullseye dial, a concentric two-tone design Oris first used on pocket watches in the 1910s, revived briefly at intervals through the mid-twentieth century, and last seen in 1998 before disappearing entirely. This 2026 version brings it back without limitation, pairing the grey-and-black rings with a red-tipped date hand that traces the outer scale — the colour doing exactly the work it needs to against the monochrome ground. At 38mm with a lug-to-lug of 45.5mm, it sits closer to the wrist than most pilot-heritage pieces, and the double-domed sapphire pulls the dial slightly upward in a way that catches angled light differently across the concentric sectors. The deer-leather strap is fitted with Oris's quick-change system, so swapping it takes seconds and no tools. The caseback opens onto a view of the Calibre 754, which is built on Sellita SW200 architecture — competent and well-proven, not elaborately finished, but honest about what it is.
