The PRX shape first appeared in 1978, and when Tissot revived it in 2021 the decision was to do so properly: integrated bracelet, flush case transitions, the geometry intact. This black-dial automatic arrived as part of that revival, carrying the original proportions into a watch built around a movement the 1978 case never had. That movement is worth understanding. The Powermatic 80 is an ETA 2824 derivative running at 21,600vph with a Nivachron hairspring — an alloy that resists both magnetic interference and temperature variation more reliably than a standard steel spring. The practical result is 80 hours of power reserve and a movement visible through the caseback that is more robust in daily wear than its accessible positioning might suggest. At 10.9mm thick, the watch disappears under a cuff in a way that most 40mm automatics do not manage. The one thing to know before buying is the bracelet geometry. The first link does not articulate, which pushes the effective lug-to-lug past 51mm regardless of what the case-only measurement implies — it wears larger than it reads on paper, and the butterfly clasp has no micro-adjustment, only half-links for sizing. On the right wrist it is a non-issue; on a smaller one it is worth trying in person. The embossed texture on the black dial, barely visible straight-on and more apparent in raking light, is the detail that prevents the watch from reading as plain.
