Stepping up in Speake-Marin's range
The collaboration behind this watch is narrow and specific: Speake-Marin and Watches of Switzerland operate together in London, New York and Las Vegas — three cities that share no time zone — so the logical instrument for the partnership was a dual-time. The edition is limited to ten pieces. The Piccadilly case has been the house's signature architecture since 2002, its name drawn from the London square, and the heart-shaped hands trace back to the clock on the Elizabeth Tower. Both references sit quietly on the wrist rather than announcing themselves. The pink here is not arbitrary: the dial's copper grain finish is intended to read like the Mojave Desert landscape near Las Vegas, and in angled light it does shift between something closer to sand and something closer to rose. The 24-hour home-time indicator sits at nine o'clock; the small seconds appear at one-thirty, an unusual placement that breaks the dial's symmetry in a way that takes a moment to understand and then seems entirely considered. The SMA02 carries an integrated micro-rotor, which is why the movement, visible through the exhibition back, reads as open and uncluttered rather than dominated by the winding mass.

Peter Speake-Marin trained at Hackney Technical College in London, spent years restoring antique watches on Piccadilly and later worked at Renaud et Papi, the complications workshop behind much of the industry's most difficult work. He founded his own brand in Switzerland in 2002.
The house style was established early and has stayed: the Piccadilly case with its distinctive stepped bezel, the topping tool motif taken from a watchmaker's own bench, and heart-shaped bridges visible through the back.
Christelle Rosnoblet bought the company in 2012 and built a movement workshop in the Neuchâtel region, moving it from assembling supplied calibres towards developing and finishing its own.
The output is deliberately small and deliberately difficult — tourbillons, minute repeaters, the Vertical Double Tourbillon, and an Art Series with hand-sculpted dials. These are watches made in dozens rather than thousands.
Peter Speake-Marin himself has since moved on to other projects; the brand he named continues in Geneva.
