Gucci G-Frame watch, 18mm

The G-Frame is Gucci's exercise in compression: a square case measuring 18 by 14mm that wears as a slim architectural bracket on the wrist, closer to a cuff in its proportions than to a conventional dial. The sapphire crystal is cut with angled edges that catch and refract light, making the black lacquered dial read differently depending on the angle — the three diamond indexes contribute to this rather than decorating it in any conventional sense. At 7mm thick and 9mm across the bracelet, the whole piece sits flat and narrow enough to disappear under a sleeve without catching on anything, which is exactly the kind of watch this format is designed to be.
